However this analysis has demonstrated that encouraging younger drivers (< 26 years), particularly to drive rigid trucks is also appropriate without this endangering workplace and road safety. We have demonstrated that for a number of important accident factors the age of the driver does not affect accident causation. This practice, with appropriate mentoring and training would lead to the creation of a more professional and skilled workforce. This research was funded under the WorkCover Assist Applied Research Program. The grantee, the Transport Workers Union (TWU) engaged the University of Newcastle to undertake the study. The conclusions in the final report are those of the authors and any views expressed are not necessarily those of WorkCover NSW.]]> Wed 11 Apr 2018 13:14:02 AEST ]]> Age-related safety in professional heavy vehicle drivers: a literature review https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:9281 Sat 24 Mar 2018 10:44:17 AEDT ]]> Physical activity of older Australians measured by pedometry https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:8376 30, and with a history of arthritis but no significant association with other demographic variables. Internationally and nationally, considerable efforts are being made to promote active ageing. However, Australia lacks the kind of comprehensive longitudinal research underway in Europe and North America. Although Australia does have a number of longitudinal studies designed to address various issues of health and ageing among older adults, only a few of these studies include a broad and comprehensive range of physical and biological measures. The Hunter Community Study (HCS) is a collaborative study between the University of Newcastle’s School of Medicine and Public Health and the Hunter New England Area Health Service. It is a multi disciplinary initiative that was established to fill some existing gaps in ageing research in Australia and is unique in that it has collected detailed information across all six key policy themes as identified in the Framework for an Australian Ageing Research Agenda.]]> Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:35:25 AEDT ]]>
